ABOUT

Biography:

Kaleb Crouch is a musician and composer currently studying at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, set to graduate in the Spring of 2026. Studying under the guidance of Dr. Jon Forshee, Kaleb is expanding his compositional skills in an effort to become a full-time composer and sound designer for films, video games, and other various media as a career.

From an early age, Kaleb took his love for rhythm and applied it towards drum lessons, kickstarting a love for percussion. Growing up, Kaleb was a part of his school’s concert bands, jazz bands, and marching bands, practicing and improving his percussion skills throughout his years in grade school.

While Kaleb found a natural attraction towards percussion instruments in his early life, he also discovered a love for composing at 13 years old, attributing this sudden love for composition to the game Undertale. Kaleb practiced his composition skills by making orchestral arrangements of Undertale’s music, which eventually grew and blossomed into a full medley designed for his 7th-grade concert band. Nearly a decade later, Kaleb continues to make compositional works at UCCS. Kaleb has written two original symphony orchestra works titled The Hollow Crown and Locomotion, which have premiered live at their own respective UCCS concerts. Kaleb’s time at UCCS has caused him to learn and grow as a composer, percussionist, and all-around musician, and he is excited to use these skills in his music career.

Artist Statement:

Music is central to my artistic identity as both a composer and percussionist. At the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, I have developed as a versatile percussionist through performances with a variety of ensembles, most notably the UCCS Symphony Orchestra.

During my time at UCCS, the orchestra has premiered my original piece, The Hollow Crown, and later premiered Locomotion, a commissioned piece that further expanded on my compositional skills. The experience that I’ve gained through composing these two pieces for the orchestra has invaluably impacted my growth as a composer, as I have achieved a refined sensitivity to ensemble balance, a stronger understanding of idiomatic writing across instrumental families, and a deepened appreciation for the orchestra’s vast emotional and expressive capabilities.

Compositionally, my style centers on rhythm-driven momentum, emotional intensity, and cinematic storytelling. My time in academia has allowed my artistic nature to flourish, leading me to explore various subjects such as sound art, game audio, electronic music, and audio engineering. I am driven by the process of having a musical idea of mine take shape into a fully realized sonic experience, and I am continually seeking new and innovative ways to create my musical works of art.
